Homey Feels

I can't put into words what I get from my visits back home.
It is where the dots between the past and
everything I grew up with, connect to who I am now and
all that I have learned.
It fuels me in ways that only my family, old friends and familiar places can.
Every nook and cranny is oozing with some of the best memories
and reminders of when special traditions were born.
New places get explored and become cherished memories.
Favorite moments have the potential to become new traditions.

Home is a collection of life experiences, and unique personalities.
It's where I feel safe and whole,
and I can let my guard down.
Home grounds me, and adds meaning to my life.
It teaches me more about me.
Home and my well-being just go together.

"She did not need much, wanted very little.
A kind word, sincerity, fresh air, clean water,
a garden, kisses, books to read,
sheltering arms, a cozy bed, and to love and be loved in return."

Good Life

I love tucking away little notes of encouragement,
insight, and wisdom into my journals.
Today, I was reading about the simple life
of Scott and Helen Nearing, and it sparked my interest.
I put her cookbook in my cart on Amazon,
and contemplated putting her memoir
in the basket while I was at it.
I stepped in and intervened myself.
I'm a book junkie.
I'll read 5 or 6 at the same time...
and then order another one that sits and waits...or
sometimes I start reading it immediately,
  bumping another aside.
It's a thing. I have enough.
Anyways....

I found these suggestions out of Helen's memoir and
wanted to tuck them in my blog for safe keeping.

"*Do the best you can, with whatever you have.
*Be at peace with yourself.
*Find a job you enjoy.
*Live in simple conditions; housing, food, clothing; get rid of clutter.
*Contact nature every day; feel the earth under your feet.
*Take physical exercise through hard work; through gardening or walking.
*Don't worry; live one day at a time.
*Share something every day with someone else; if you live alone,
write someone; give something away; help someone somehow.
*Take time to wonder at life and the world; see some humor in life where you can.
*Observe the one life in all things.
*Be kind to the creatures."
~Helen Nearing February 23, 1904 - September 17, 1995

Clearing Things

Today, I will surrender control (again) of every area
of my life to God, and allow Him to determine
what can remain in my life and what must go.

"Imagine spending your entire life trying to listen
to a symphony through a broken radio, hearing
traces of gorgeous music distorted by static so
bad it sets your teeth on edge.
Then imagine waking up in the middle of the orchestra.
No static. No separation. Just beauty."

My will-His will.

Awesome God

Today, my granddog came to visit.
We did yoga, read and snacked on peanut butter.
Yesterday was one of those days. A come to Jesus day.
Today, I am blown away by the little things,
especially by this song sent to me from my nephew.

"If today gets difficult,
remember the smell of coffee,
the way sunlight bounces off a window,
the sound of your favorite person's laugh,
the feeling when a song you love comes on,
the color of the sky at dusk,
and that we are here to take care of each other."

Simple Life

It felt like we were on vacation, instead of in the front yard.
The simple little pleasures of good company,
a nice breezy spot under the shade tree, and focusing
on what's right with the world.
Life isn't as bad as the mind is
trying to make us think.

"A manifesto for a simple life:
Eat less, move more.
Buy less, make more.
Stress less, laugh more.
Feel blessed, love more.
Find a quiet spot and breathe."

Odds Are

I don't have to just believe anymore,
because I know.

"Don't be in such a rush to figure everything out.
Embrace the unknown and let your life surprise you."
